Alexandria was founded in 1749. In the 1750s, there were 18 licensed taverns!
Tavern life was a big part of the cities development dating back to the colonial period.
Taverns were more than places to wine and dine. They provided rest from a long travel. Although privacy was non-existent! Taverns were also popular places to socialize, conduct business, and receive the news of the day. Before there was social media, information went viral through word of mouth!

Our guide will tell fun stories and bring to life Alexandria's tavern history. Guides provide an entertaining way to explore Old Town and experience the city. We treat guests like friends and extend small town hospitality to all visitors!

Meeting Location: The Alexandrian (480 King Street). Please note this is different from other tours.

This tour requires a minimum # of at least two guests. Solo travelers will be able to book after two guests have booked.

This is not a pub crawl. We will not be going into bars and drinks are not included.

Entry into historic homes or museums. There are many historic locations that are private residences and museums. We will walk by but not enter these locations. Guides will tell the history of them, but entry is not included with the tour.
